Retrieval Specialist Unit
The Air Force Retrieval Specialists are one of the Air Force's elite special forces units. Their numbers are estimated at 35,000 airmen. The main purpose of the RSU is to insert into hostile territory, and carry out rescue operations for downed pilots, or soldiers. They can be found stationed on board Navy aircraft carriers when undertaking overseas operations, or there is one squad stationed at each airbase within the nation. The RSU cross trains with other special forces units, and rescuemen receive the same certifications that other units are awarded.
All rescuemen are able to insert into a territory by helicopter, or by airborne operation, and they frequently carry out airborne jumps during peacetime as training.
