Laiklandic Maritime Guard
The Maritime Guard is the smaller of the two sub-branches of the Commonwealth Guard. There are a total of 9,500,000 Guardsmen in it's ranks. The Maritime Guard is the premier law enforcement agency in Laiklandic waters, as well as the force responsible for organizing and carrying out search and rescue operations at sea. It is considered a uniformed military force, and is combat capable in times of war.
The sea-going fleet mainly consists of medium-sized patrol ships known as "cutters." There are also larger destroyers in service, but these generally do not participate in maritime patrols. All cutters maintain helicopter landing pads, and must be able to carry enough food for it's crew and any possible rescued people for months at a time, because the weather in the northern seas does not always permit helicopter operations.
The Maritime Guard is the only operator of icebreaker ships in the northern seas, and maintains a fleet of 6 of them, with 2 in reserve.
